Chapter 4

Chapter 4: Embracing the Future

The hospital room feels quieter than before, the distant sounds of bustling nurses and rolling carts fading into the background. She sits upright, running her hand over the soft fabric of the blanket draped over her legs. Every passing moment cements the reality—this is not a dream. This is her life, and she must live it differently this time.

She lowers her gaze to her stomach, feeling the gentle movements of the child growing inside her. A part of her still struggles with the idea of motherhood, but she knows one thing for sure—this baby is innocent. And for the first time, she acknowledges her role not as a scorned woman but as a mother.

The nurse enters the room, carrying a tray with her meal. “You’re looking much better today,” she says kindly, setting the tray on the bedside table.

She manages a small smile. “I feel better.”

“Good,” the nurse replies, adjusting the IV stand. “The doctor will be by soon to check on you. If everything looks fine, you might be discharged soon.”

Discharged. The thought makes her pause. Where will she go? Back to the house where everything unraveled? Face the family that ignored her, the husband who never loved her? A flicker of hesitation passes through her, but she quickly smothers it. She is not the same woman who let her emotions control her. She will not be trapped in the past.

After eating, she stands up, taking slow, measured steps toward the window. The city stretches beyond the glass, its usual chaos feeling oddly distant. She watches people hurry along the streets below, living their lives as if nothing has changed. But for her, everything has.

A knock on the door pulls her back to the present. The doctor steps in, flipping through his clipboard. “How are you feeling today?”

“Better,” she answers firmly.

He nods approvingly. “Your vitals are stable, and the baby is doing well. If there are no complications, you can be discharged tomorrow. Just remember to take it easy and avoid stress.”

She thanks him, her mind already forming a plan. She will leave the hospital, but she will not return to her old ways. She will rebuild her life—not for anyone else, but for herself and her child.

As the doctor leaves, she takes one last glance out the window. Tomorrow marks the first step toward her future, and this time, she won’t waste it.
